1984年毕业于武汉地质学院岩矿专业，1990年获硕士学位，1996年获博士学位，1999年博士后出站。1984~1997在中国地质大学（武汉）地学院任教。现任中国地质科学院地质研究所研究员，博士生导师。曾到美国卡内基地球物理研究所、德国波茨坦地学研究中心和哥廷根大学进行合作研究。主要从事岩石学与变质地质学研究。主持国家自然科学基金面上项目四项，作为负责人完成基金重大项目课题一项和973项目一项。参加国家及省部级科研项目多项。曾获国家科技进步二等奖一项，部科技成果一等奖一项，获省级优秀科研论文奖三项。在国内、外期刊发表论文100余篇。第一作者发表论文46篇，其中SCI检索系统收录22篇。所发表的SCI检索论文（包括非第一作者）总引用达到800次，在2009年五月统计的全球地球科学家论文引用率排名中列1067位（SCIENTIST RANKING IN GEOSCIENCES），名列我国内地科研人员论文引用次数最多的前30名之列。主要研究方向是：大陆造山带变质地质学及板块会聚边缘的变质化学地球动力学。
